Another Anti-Knitting Graffiti Blog Post

I have to draw attention to the "other" knitters, the one's that don't approve of what we do. The Anti-Knitting-Graffiti Manifesto is the latest "annoyance" with knit graffiti. The posts focus is on media attention, so I have a feeling that if knit graffiti remained underground and didn't gain media attention that maybe she would feel differently.

What is she going to think when Yarn Bombing comes out in September...

oh who cares! they are entitled to their opinion, and as a 54 year old who has been knitting off and on since I was 9 I am entitled to mine. I enjoy what I do as an artist, and so does the village I live (who have given my group absolute support in our public art-including knit graffiti). The kids adore the knit graffiti, the tourists, the locals. That is all that counts.

It will all blow over, if not already..

I agree grrl=dog, sour grapes have a tendency to cause the runs.

She's just jealous of our fabulous fibers, beautifully knit/crocheted decorations & the ability to enjoy our Constitutional right to freely express ourselves. Let's send her a copy-I'm sure she missed reading the Constitution in her rush to jump on something she can't do, rather than do something useful for society that she can do. Haters just have to be ignored as we go on our merry way knitting happy things all over our world. This from a 58 year old who is obviously still happy protesting & 'dong my own thing' - or as my kids proudly say- we're hippie thinkers just like our mom. I personally think she should leave us alone & go give her time to a soup kitchen, food pantry, homeless shelter, or charity of her choosing - oh, wait, I do that too....must be a bad thing, just like this graffiti....

Hahahha... Yes mamakin, please send an Australian the American Constitution and tell her how it applies where she lives.

And no, I'm not jealous of any of the knit graffiti I've seen in Sydney. I might be jealous of all the media attention it gets, but the ability to crank out badly-tensioned stocking stitch rectangles isn't something I'm pining for. I'd much rather continue knitting the things I find interesting: socks, cables, fairisle, instarsia, etc.

I feel like I've been repeating this for two months now, but once again: My dislike of your art form is not a reflection on you personally.

Kris, I never took dislike of knit graffiti personally, if I had taken any dislike of what I do as an artist I would never do the kind of artwork I do. What I wonder is why on earth you would you be jealous of the media attention? It's just a silly wonderful fad that makes people smile, bad knitting or not.

Also your comment "but the ability to crank out badly-tensioned stocking stitch rectangles isn't something I'm pining for." suggests to me you are still not getting what Knit Graffiti is about.
Just as you enjoy the challenge of doing interesting patterns, artists enjoy the challenge of using media in a different way. Knitting is one of those media used to put it into a different context. It becomes part of a visual form that goes beyond just the knitting itself. It is getting attention for that reason.
